Our House is open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day and is supported by seven full-time staff members and over 200 active volunteers. Our House is a home, providing hot meals, laundry facilities and a place to rest. It has all the benefits of a home, including a playroom, teen game room, a library, two kitchens and a large dining room.
The House provides an environment of emotional support from staff members, volunteers and other families who are going through similar circumstances. While we cannot make medicine taste better or take away painful treatments, we can help lessen the burden and ensure families have the stability and resources to keep their child healthy and happy.
Although it costs around $115/night to house a family, we request just $15/night from families to stay in our House. However, 87% of families staying with us could not afford to make any donation for their entire stay.
Families who have been devastated with medical bills and other expenses often cannot afford even a small contribution for an extended period – but families are never turned away based up financial hardship. We do this through the generous donations of our community.
In February 2004, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Nashville officially opened Nashville’s first Ronald McDonald Family Room at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. This room is an extension of the House where families and friends of seriously ill children can enjoy a break from corridors and waiting rooms, whether or not they’re staying at the Ronald McDonald House.
The Family Room includes a comfortable seating area, a kitchen stocked with snacks, a children’s play area, a half bath, and the support of caring staff and volunteers. Open 9am – 9pm each day when volunteers/part-time staff are available, the Family Room has served more than 435,973 individuals since its opening and averages more than 1,400 visitors per month.
